BCSA Privacy Policy

The Budgerigar Council of South Australia Inc. (BCSA):

  • Is aiming to communicate with fanciers from time to time and in part, there will be promotional information included in these communications,
  • Is committed to providing quality services to you via these communications.

This policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your Personal Information and to ensure we comply with the Spam Act 2003 (the Act) or any amendments to.

We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act) and any amendments to, to ensure we comply with the requirements of the Privacy Act and the Act. The APPs guide the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information. What is Personal Information and why do we collect it?

Personal Information: is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we collect includes names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers. This Personal Information will only be obtained from the BCSA consent form, if you give signed authorisation to opt in.
We collect your Personal Information: for the primary purpose of providing a service to you.
You may unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time by using our unsubscribing facility.

We will deal with your personal information in the following ways:
Your name and your email address will be recorded against your user profile to
enable us to:

  • provide information and resources to you;
  • engage in direct marketing activities via email (if you have registered your email address with us and have agreed using the “opted-in” section on the consent form).

We will keep records of your account history, about your profile activity or communications we have had with you.
We will not make any attempt to identify you or your browsing activities from the collection of this information.
We may disclose your personal information if you have consented to the disclosure;

  • to our service providers (such as our IT and analytics service providers);
  • if required or authorised by or under an Australian law or a court/tribunal order.

Maintaining the Quality of your Personal Information

We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date as this is important to us.
If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.

We may change, vary or modify all or part of this Privacy Policy at any time at our sole discretion. It is your responsibility to check this Privacy Policy periodically for changes noting that if we change, vary or modify all or part of this Privacy Policy:

  • we will post the new Privacy Policy on applicable Platforms; and
  • it will then apply through your acceptance of it by subsequent or continued use of the Platforms and/or our Services.

Contact forms

When you submit an enquiry through our BCSA contact forms, the information is sent to members of the BCSA committee for review and actioning. When you do use the contact forms, your data is automatically added to MailChimp data bases. It is also stored in Jotform. Privacy policies for both these organisations can be viewed by visiting their individual websites.

Furthermore, from time to time, as required by the submission, we may pass your information onto one of our affiliate or associate clubs. For instance, you may have enquired about your nearest Club, or next meeting. To that end, we may also pass your information onto the Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC), the governing body for budgerigars in Australia.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. When you close your browser, it discards this cookie which contains no personal data.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. Your login cookies are removed when you log out of your account.

When you edit or publish an article, our system will save an additional cookie in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Who we share your data with

We share our data on analytics with our members, in terms of site visits, number of impressions, and things of the like. In this process, personal information is not disclosed. 

How long we retain your data

When you leave a comment, we retain the comment and its metadata indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. We do not exclude any data that we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
