FIVEAA Interview May 24
Will Goodings and David Penberthy from Adelaide’s FiveAA interview BCSA President Troy Holmes about the upcoming Nationals this weekend. Budgie breeders from across the country are eager to compete in the Australian National Budgerigar Council’s 48th National Titles, held in Launceston, Tasmania, at the end of May. Over 500 budgies will vie for the top spots in a competition marked by fierce state rivalry.
“This is the ultimate budgie beauty contest, and it’s serious business,” said Troy Holmes, President of the Budgerigar Council of South Australia. “With teams of bird carers flying in, it’s the State of Origin for budgies.”
Starting last Saturday, there is a complete social media blackout of all show budgies to maintain the event’s integrity. “The security behind the judging and the identity of these birds rivals that of the AFL Brownlow count,” Troy explained. “There’s an international live stream of the judging that attracts viewers worldwide—these birds are the pick of the flock.”
The Australian National Budgerigar Council National Titles will be held on May 25-26.
