BCSA Budgie Bulletin: Weekly Wrap & Look Ahead

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin, our last one before Christmas! As the festive season approaches, we hope this week’s edition finds you well and ready to enjoy some time with family, friends, and, of course, your beloved budgies. For those in the midst of the breeding season, we trust you’ve already received your 2025 rings and are making the most of this exciting time in the breeding calendar. These rings mark not only the start of a new year but also a fresh opportunity to raise the champions of tomorrow.

We’re pleased to share some updates and announcements from the BCSA. Firstly, we’ve made several adjustments to our website. These include minor but important amendments to the status movement process. For those unfamiliar, the status movement process governs how breeders progress from Novice to Intermediate and ultimately to Open or Champion status based on their achievements in exhibitions and competitions. These updates are designed to ensure fairness and clarity, reflecting feedback from our community. To view the changes in detail, please visit the relevant page on our website by following the link provided below.

In addition to these changes, we are excited to announce that we’re working hard to finalize the status points update for 2024. Once completed, this update will allow us to officially recognize and celebrate our Novice, Intermediate, and Open breeders of the year. Furthermore, it will identify those breeders who have achieved the remarkable milestone of qualifying for Champion status in 2025. This is always a highlight of the year for the BCSA, as it showcases the incredible talent and dedication within our community. We encourage everyone to keep an eye out for the announcement and join us in congratulating these outstanding individuals.

Looking ahead to 2025, we have some exciting news regarding the BCSA Auction. The Council has decided that the auction will take place at a new venue, the Klemzig Community Centre, on Sunday, 3 August 2025. This change of location is part of our ongoing effort to enhance the experience for both sellers and buyers, providing a comfortable and accessible environment for everyone involved. The auction is a key event on the BCSA calendar, offering breeders an opportunity to showcase their birds to a wide audience and for enthusiasts to acquire high-quality stock to enhance their aviaries. We’ll share more details about the event, including how to participate, closer to the date, so be sure to stay tuned.

We’re also delighted to announce the bird carers for the Cairns 2025 National Show. Michael Smith, Troy Holmes, George England, and Paul Wilton have generously agreed to take on this important responsibility. Their roles will involve ensuring the welfare of the birds throughout the event, from the time they arrive until they are safely returned to their owners. The National Show is a significant event in the budgerigar world, bringing together breeders and exhibitors from across the country to celebrate the best of our hobby. With such experienced and dedicated carers on board, we’re confident that the welfare of the birds will be in excellent hands.

On a bittersweet note, we’d like to acknowledge the departure of Danny Brill from his role as a Budgerigar Society of South Australia (BSSA) delegate to the BCSA. Danny isn’t getting out of birds – just stepping away from the Council. He has been a dedicated and valued member of our team, contributing significantly to the advancement of our hobby and the broader budgerigar community. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for his hard work and commitment. With Danny stepping away, a position has become available for a new BSSA delegate to join the BCSA. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about budgerigars and eager to make a difference. If you’re interested in filling this role, we encourage you to reach out to BSSA President Chris Murphy and put your hand up. Joining the BCSA as a delegate is a rewarding experience that allows you to contribute to the direction and success of our team while working closely with like-minded individuals.
