James Matthews Auction 2024
Welcome to the James Matthews Pam Hewitt Auction for 2024. Please note that three auctions are running simultaneously, each scheduled to conclude on the same night with slightly staggered finish times. This strategic arrangement allows all purchases to be finalised at once, ensuring buyers do not need to wait days or weeks for birds from the second and third auctions to become available. This also streamlines the process, facilitating the shipping or collection of all birds in a single go.
To enhance the bidding experience, the varieties have been mixed across all three auctions. This change is based on valuable feedback indicating that when birds of the same variety were grouped into a single 20-bird auction, participants struggled to bid on everything they desired.
James Matthews
Over the last six show seasons, James Matthews has achieved remarkable success, winning 21 Grand Champion awards with 10 different birds at BSNSW Branch and Associates shows. Notably, this includes four Grand Champions with two different birds in 2024. Several of James’s birds have proudly represented NSW at the Nationals, with significant victories including a win in 2017 with a Spangle Cinnamon Greygreen hen in the AOSV Spangle class and another in 2019 with a Greywing Greygreen cock.
Moreover, over the last seven Nationals, 24 of James’s birds have represented NSW, with 15 finishing in the top nine. In 2023, three of his birds represented NSW at the National, with the highest placing being third in the Spangle class. In 2024, three more of his birds represented NSW, with the best result being fourth place with a Spangle Cinnamon Greygreen hen. James breeds a diverse range of birds, with Spangles remaining the cornerstone of his aviary.
Pam Hewitt
Pam Hewitt specializes in Goldenface and Darkwings. She has consistently won the Best of Variety competition in NSW for the past few years. In the previous year, Pam had an especially successful season with Goldenfaces. To that end, this is why she is able to offer so many in these auctions. Typically, Pam does not keep any Goldenfaces that are Cinnamon and/or Opaline. For this reason, some of those are included in the auctions. Last year, she bred more cocks than hens, a fact reflected in the Goldenfaces available in these auctions.
All birds across the three James Matthews 2024 Auctions are 2022 and 2023 rung. Notably, an exception is one of Barry Wise’s Split Recessive Pied cocks. If a bird has been used in the cabinets, it will be noted in the comments. Therefore, all others are assumed to be maiden birds.
Please feel free to ask any questions, and James will respond as quickly as possible.
Good luck, and happy breeding!
