Welcome to This Week’s Budgie Bulletin! The North East Budgerigar Society (NEBS) held their monthly meeting on Wednesday night. Despite the sweltering conditions that recently enveloped South Australia, the NEBS’s monthly meeting witnessed an impressive turnout, featuring several new enthusiasts eager to delve into the world of budgerigars. Considering the heat, and factoring in bird welfare, no budgies were on show and the pairing event had to be postponed, however there was a presentation delivered on the same topic, and some robust discussions were generated. Some great feedback was received, and the North East will look to possibly push their Novice Pairing Night out to the May meeting, so that members can still bring along their birds for assessment and discussion.
Tomorrow, the Port Pirie Club is gearing up for their own meeting, at the residence of Doug and Ruth Lange in Maitland, kicking off at 11 AM. Known for their convivial atmosphere, the Port Pirie meetings bring together both seasoned members and newcomers on a day filled with aviary tours and social luncheons. It’s an opportunity to experience the camaraderie and shared enthusiasm that define these gatherings. For anyone who is keen on attending, be sure to let Peter Glassenbury know, so that catering can be adjusted accordingly.
Casting our gaze beyond local events, the South Queensland community is gearing up for their much-anticipated Futures Show this Sunday. Highlighting the event is a special raffle featuring a bird from South Australia. Remember the stroke of luck Dave Miller experienced at the recent BCT auction? That fortune could be yours, but participation is key. If you’re feeling lucky, there’s still time to snag a ticket.
Meanwhile, in Victoria, the Riverina and Ballarat Clubs are set to host their respective diploma shows, showcasing top-tier budgerigars. Not to be outdone, Hunter Valley in regional New South Wales is also hosting its distinguished event, promising a day of quality budgerigars on show.
In a strategic move, the Melton Budgerigar Club in Victoria has rescheduled its Annual Auction to July 29th, avoiding scheduling conflicts with other events. This auction is a highlight in the budgerigar community, particularly drawing significant attention from South Australian enthusiasts. To avoid missing out on this flagship event, enthusiasts are encouraged to update their calendars with the new date, ensuring they’re part of the vibrant gathering that celebrates the beauty and diversity of budgerigars.
