Welcome to This Week’s Budgie Bulletin!
At the threat of sounding like a broken record, it’s been another massive week in the world of budgerigars. We’ve had the Murphy Classic future champions show, as well as the North East Budgerigar Society celebrating half a century of excellence. Interstate, Wynnum held a very successful Showcase Auction, that drew in enthusiasts from across the country. Meanwhile, on the national front, the Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC) convened their initial working group meeting to deliberate on the logistics and strategies for the live streaming component of future National Titles. This strategic move was designed to revolutionise how these events are shared and experienced by Budgie lovers worldwide.
A heartfelt congratulations goes out to Andrew Swift, the Back Family, and Ian & Gina Wise for benching the Champions in the BSSA Murphy Classic Future Champions Novice and Intermediate Show. With over 200 birds showcased by 17 exhibitors, the event highlighted the robust talent and dedication within the Novice and Intermediate categories here in South Australia. The enthusiastic participation and support for the Show is deeply valued by all involved.
Kudos are also in order for Wayne Weidenhofer on his inaugural Major Award Judging appointment here in South Australia. His successful tenure was supported by the capable assistance of Ken Harris, George England, Troy Holmes, and Ian Wise. The BSSA extend their gratitude to the Stewards and club members who contributed their time and effort to set up and clean up the Hall.

In other news, the North East Budgerigar Society successfully held their 50th anniversary event on Wednesday evening, and what an incredible evening it was, with 62 people coming out to this landmark celebration of half a century in existence. The event reunited members with many familiar faces from the past. Kelwyn Kakoschke delivered a captivating speech on the significant impact the NEBS club has had on the budgerigar community over the years. His words resonated with many of the crowd, sparking a wave of nostalgia and reminding us of the countless cherished memories tied to South Australia, which has been a wonderful place to call home.
We then journeyed through time, as Graeme Goodings skillfully guided us on a nostalgic trip from 1974 to the present day, encapsulating the essence and evolution of our beloved region, and all that’s happened in between. His narrative not only celebrated our shared history but also highlighted the enduring spirit and camaraderie of our community. Needless to say, Graeme absolutely captivated the audience, as he thanked everyone for allowing him to be a part of their family each night as he delivered the News here in South Australia over the decades.
For those early risers or the keen enthusiasts among us, you may have caught Graeme returning to the airwaves, with a big shout out to the Budgerigar community on 5AA’s Thursday morning program. His familiar voice graces the morning broadcast from 5:00 am each morning, alongside his son Will Goodings, who is also the 7 News Nightly anchor. Graeme’s presence on the radio, reminiscent of the past yet ever so relevant today, serves as a bridge connecting our cherished memories with the present, continually enriching our appreciation for the journey we’ve shared in this remarkable place.

Moving our attention interstate, there wasn’t a lot of activity on the show scene, with most fanciers beginning preparations for Mad May and all of the shows that ensue. However, that didn’t stop bird sales, with the Wynnum Showcase Auction taking off in full flight. Congratulations to the club on such a successful event, where enthusiasts from across the country were able to access quality birds to improve their respective studs.
This week, the ANBC Working group for Live Streaming also held their inaugural meeting to discuss how to deliver a product into the future. The meeting was a melting pot for some great ideas, enthusiastic discussions, and genuine enthusiasm for the future of the hobby. |

As a result, Glenn is offering 12 birds for sale. Given the impending move, Glenn remains uncertain about when he will next have the opportunity to breed, rendering this auction especially critical for those chasing his bloodlines. To check out the birds on offer, use the link below:
