As announced last week, the BCSA are also participating in the upcoming Pet Show, scheduled for May 18th and 19th. Following its recent success in Melbourne, the event has proven to be an excellent platform for engaging with budding budgie enthusiasts. Despite coinciding with the Logan Shield State Selection Show, we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to connect with future hobbyists and promote the joys of budgie ownership. For those who’ve replied with their availability for the Sunday, we appreciate your support. The Pet Show has announced this week that they’re providing a unique 20% discount code for entry into the event. You can use AZ4K48 when purchasing to get this discount. Feel free to share this code with your family and friends, as the more people we can get along, the greater the weekend will be, and our feathered friends will be the long-term winners. |

In other news, the RSPCA in South Australia were able to meet their target of $500,000 in 5 days to support the move to their new facility in O’Halloran Hill. They’re so grateful for the big-hearted South Australia community who have dug deep this week for the state’s most vulnerable animals. 💚 For those who donated, thank you for your generosity.
Turning our attention interstate, the Phil Hoadley Estate auction was well attended, with enthusiasts turning out in the hopes of securing some of Phil’s birds. The Mornington Peninsula Bird Club also held their annual expo, and while on route, enthusiast Rex Stephens had a good chat with Ian “Macca” McNamara from ABC radio on the topic of budgies, as Macca put the case forward that the quintessential budgie should be National bird of Australia. Click here to listen to the interview. |
|
Looking ahead, this weekend, Wollongong host their annual show interstate, while the Geelong Live Auction beckons on Sunday. The ANBC also has their Zoom meeting this Monday evening, for all the State and Zone representatives. A reminder also that entries close Sunday, April 29th, 2024, at 8:00 PM with George England for the Stan Watson Breeder Show, 5:00 PM, and Friday, May 3, 2024 for the Harry Johnston Young Stock Show, with Show Manager Bob Simpson. |

BSSA May Meeting – Tuesday May 7th
The entertainment for the May meeting will be “5 best tricks for preparing birds” and will be presented by Doug Lange and John Mulley. Doug and John have been part of the South Australian bird carer team for the ANBC show for many, many years, and will be sharing their skills and knowledge with us all.
It is intended that we all bring along a couple of birds in a show cage with the preparation equipment we would normally use at home. John and Doug will run a master class on show preparation and it will be a large workshop with everyone learning and experimenting together. Doug has promised to dawn his famous terry-toweling apron, that is a fashion icon of sorts in the carer room.
All are welcome.

As we close this edition of our newsletter and step into Mad May, we’d like to remind you of the ANBC Social Media policy. It’s important to note that birds selected by any South Australian Affiliate Club, including reserve birds, should not be part of any promotional discussions online until after the Nationals have concluded. Furthermore, judges who are slated to officiate at the ANBC titles are now entering a one-month hiatus from all social media and internet activities related to exhibition budgerigars. These judges are also prohibited from attending or being involved in any aspect of the Affiliate Clubs’ Selection Shows for the ANBC National Show. This is essential to preserve the fairness and integrity of the upcoming ANBC Show.
In line with these guidelines, the Budgie Bulletin will not feature any show results or photographs from shows during May. This measure is in place to uphold the integrity of the ANBC event. Please be aware that the ANBC has specified severe penalties for breaches of this policy, which could include disqualification of the promoted birds or even the entire team from competing at the ANBC National Show. We urge everyone to exercise caution when sharing photos of birds over the next four weeks.
Rest assured, the upcoming four editions of the Budgie Bulletin will focus exclusively on auction birds, lucky squares birds, and pet expos. This ensures that we maintain the integrity of the ANBC event and provide our readers with engaging and compliant content.
Until next week.
