BCSA Budgie Bulletin: Weekly Wrap & Look Ahead

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin!

Another busy week across the budgerigar fancy, with a number of committee meetings taking place, preparations continuing for upcoming events, and plenty happening around the states.

On Monday evening, the BSSA Committee met to discuss a number of matters, including the upcoming November 1000 – Interclub 26 Show. Following discussions, the committee voted to proceed with the event, which is now just over a fortnight away. It is pleasing to see this event going ahead, providing another opportunity for members to get together, enjoy some friendly competition and showcase their birds.

Tuesday evening saw the ANBC Events Management Group (EMG) meet, with planning continuing for the upcoming National Championships. Preparations are progressing well for Canberra in 2027, along with the 2028 event in Western Australia. There is certainly plenty of work taking place behind the scenes as we look towards the next couple of years on the national calendar.

On Wednesday, the North East Budgerigar Society (NEBS) Committee held its postponed meeting, working through the remaining events for 2026 and putting together the club’s calendar for the first half of 2027. With the end of the year fast approaching, it is good to see clubs getting organised and looking ahead to what promises to be another busy year.

Interclub 2026

With the BSSA Committee giving the green light on Monday evening, preparations are now underway for the November 1000 – Interclub 26 Show, scheduled for Sunday, 15 November, at the Ascot Park Scout Hall. The show schedule is now available, and members are encouraged to start looking through their birds and planning their entries. The show is open exclusively to Green 2026 rung birds, with classes aligned to the ANBC Class Schedule. There is also the opportunity for exhibitors to earn valuable status movement points, provided sufficient exhibitors and entries are benched on the day.

The event will once again incorporate the annual Interclub competition between the BSSA and NEBS, bringing a little friendly rivalry into the mix. With bragging rights on the line, both clubs will be looking for strong support from their members, and hopefully we will see a good number of birds on the bench. Of course, the ongoing Bird Flu situation remains a consideration, and organisers will continue to monitor developments and make any necessary adjustments closer to the day. In the meantime, members are encouraged to review the schedule, select their birds and get their entries organised. It would be terrific to see a strong turnout from both clubs for what is an important event on the South Australian budgerigar calendar.

Around the States

Over in Victoria, the Unbroken Cap (UBC) Shield was held on Sunday, with clubs coming together for another great day of competition. Congratulations to Phil Dickson, who took out Grand Champion of Show with an Ino, and to Riverina, who secured the UBC Shield. A terrific result for all involved, and congratulations to the exhibitors who supported the event. A special mention and well done to South Australia’s own George England, who was one of the judges on the day. It is always pleasing to see our South Australian judges contributing to events interstate and supporting the wider budgerigar fancy. Well done also to the organising committee and everyone who contributed to the success of the day.
