| Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin! Â |
|
| The Logan Shield was an incredible success for the Budgerigar Council of South Australia, so much so that the BCSA may need to revisit its staging plans after running out of shelving to display the Major Award birds. It is a fantastic problem to have and a clear reflection of the strength of the exhibition budgerigar fancy in South Australia as we continue to grow.
This year’s event attracted 458 entries, representing a remarkable 29% increase year on year. Even more encouraging was the success of our Novice exhibitors, with 3 of the presitgious 29 classes won by Novice breeders. We also had a win by one of our Intermediate exhibitors. This is a massive testament to the future of the hobby in this state and a wonderful sign that the next generation of South Australian exhibitors is already making its mark.
Congratulations must also go to the 17 exhibitors who had birds selected in the South Australian State Team. These 87 birds are now on the Gold Coast, proudly ready to represent South Australia at the national level. |
|
| A special thank you to Mr Ali Bouresli of Kuwait, who stepped off the plane and into a judging role, with one of our judges falling ill. It was great to have one of the ANBC’s keynote presenters for this year’s show attend our event.
Congratulations to the North East Budgerigar Society on successfully winning the 2026 Logan Shield. NEBS finished with an impressive 695 points, ahead of BSSA on 358 points and Port Pirie on 222 points. It was a fantastic result for NEBS, and well done to all three South Australian clubs on their efforts throughout the event. |
|
| It is the biggest week on the exhibition budgerigar calendar. With the Logan Shield now complete, attention turns immediately to the 50th Annual Trill™ Expert ANBC National Championships, which kick off in Southport, Queensland, later this evening.
All eyes will be on the Gold Coast this weekend as the seven states and zones battle it out for national honours, bragging rights, and 28 coveted Logies. South Australia’s team is ready, and we wish our exhibitors, bird carers, officials and supporters every success as they take on the best in the country.
Registrations are open from 12 Noon today, with Experts On The Perch kicking off later this evening. Live streaming of the Nationals will take place on YouTube for the Saturday and Sunday classes. |
|
| For those who haven’t travelled to Southport on the Gold Coast this weekend, and in need of your weekly bird fix, the Port Pirie & Port Augusta Combined bird expo will be held at the Port Pirie Basketball Stadium between 11 am and 1 pm this Sunday. Port Pirie Budgerigar Society will be present there, with several of their members selling budgies. |

| Good luck to Team South Australia as they head to the Gold Coast to represent our state. Thank you to all members who made their birds available for the team, giving them the opportunity to compete against the best 609 birds in the country, selected from a possible 142,000 rings issued in 2025. It is a tremendous achievement to have birds selected at this level. A sincere thank you also goes to our wonderful bird carers, who have taken time out to prepare the birds and travel with the team, ensuring they are presented in the best possible condition and given every opportunity to perform well on the national stage.
Until next week. |
