| Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin! |
|
| This week, the North East Budgerigar Society came together for its monthly meeting, which also incorporated the Club’s annual tender sale. Silent auctions always generate plenty of interest and discussion, and this year was no exception, with 28 people in attendance and a good selection of birds available to members.
There were certainly some great bargains to be had throughout the evening, with members taking the opportunity to strengthen their breeding rooms and add some useful birds to their teams. The top-priced bird on the night was a Dennis Lomman Normal Violet, which sold for $200.
The evening also served as the collection and handover point for the North East Mega Auction for June, which closed last weekend. With birds changing hands from both the tender sale and the Mega Auction, it was a busy and productive night for the Club and its members.
NEBS also took the opportunity to present rosettes to members who had birds selected in the National team. Congratulations to all members who were represented at the Nationals. Having birds selected at that level is a wonderful achievement and reflects the hard work, dedication and quality within the Club.
Congratulations also to Kylee Walsh, who was the lucky winner of the monthly meat tray. |
|
| This week also saw the release of the interim BCSA Status Points Summary for the 2026 showing season. Congratulations to Peter Brumby, Dave Miller and Paul Wilton, who have earned promotion to Intermediate status for the remainder of the 2026 season. This is a great achievement and reflects their continued success on the show bench.
Andrew Swift has also achieved the required points to advance to Intermediate status, however he still needs to score points in 2026 with a third bird to formally secure promotion. We congratulate Andrew on being so close to this milestone and wish him every success for the remainder of the season.
Congratulations also to Holmes Family and J & W Weidenhofer, who have secured sufficient points to be classed as Champion Exhibitors for 2026. This is a significant achievement and recognises their consistent success at the highest level.
To date in 2026, there have been three shows where points have not been allocated for Intermediate and Novice exhibitors due to insufficient exhibitor numbers in those sections. Hopefully, with the promotions listed above, we will see increased depth and participation in the Intermediate ranks across the remainder of the season.
Looking ahead, Port Pirie Budgerigar Society will hold its June quarterly meeting this week, which will take the form of an aviary visit to Shiralee Reardon at Penrice. These visits are always a valuable opportunity for members to see different breeding setups, exchange ideas and enjoy the social side of the fancy.
Entries close tomorrow for the 51st Annual NEBS Fisher Any Age Show, to be held on Saturday, June 20th 2026 at the Hectorville Community Centre, 47 Reid Avenue, Hectorville, SA 5073. Entries should be submitted on the provided entry form via email to president@bcsa.com.au before 5:00 pm.
For the day of the event, birds are to be benched between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, with judging to commence at 9:30 am. The show will be open to the public from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with presentations expected to take place at approximately 2:00 pm. Members and visitors are encouraged to come along and support what is always an important event on the NEBS calendar. |

| Over in Victoria, the Eastern Auction will also take place this weekend on Sunday, June 14th 2026 at Forest Hill Hall, corner of Canterbury and Springvale Road, Forest Hill. |
| This week is also a busy one on the auction front, with plenty of opportunities for fanciers to add quality birds to their breeding teams.
The Eastern Auction will be held live at Forest Hill on Sunday and is expected to attract strong interest, with a large catalogue of birds on offer.
In addition to the live auction, there are also five online auctions finishing this week: the JK1 Reduction Sale, BSSA Auction 11, Andrew & Wayne Cusack Auction 3, the Eric Whitton June 2026 Auction, and the Elmir Family Reduction Sale. With such a wide selection of birds available across these sales, there should be something to suit a range of breeding goals and variety interests.
Catalogues have also been released for the St George Auction, which will take place the following weekend. Fanciers are encouraged to review the catalogues early, plan their bidding, and make transport arrangements where required. |

From club meetings, tender sales and auction activity, through to show entries, aviary visits and well-earned status promotions, there is plenty happening across the fancy. It is especially pleasing to see members being recognised for their success on the show bench, while also seeing opportunities for newer and developing exhibitors to continue progressing.
As we move further into the 2026 season, continued participation, support and encouragement across all levels will be vital in keeping our clubs strong, vibrant and moving forward. To that end, if you’re able, please support the North East Any Age Show next weekend with your entries.
