| Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin! |
The North East Budgerigar Society’s Come & Try Night drew a lively crowd this week, blending a tender sale with a friendly buy/swap/sell and Come & Try. The evening also served as a convenient exchange point for birds purchased in the North East Mega Auction, which wrapped up on Sunday.
President Con Orfanos opened proceedings, and it was fantastic to see new faces, especially visitors who first met the club at Budgie Fest, returning to get more involved. Con announced that the North East will be leaning back in, after a great half of the year with their Auctions, and paying for members’ Christmas dinners at next month’s meeting. The Club will also be providing Kris Kringle presents, so they encouraged all members to register their interest for the December 10th event. Partners are also encouraged to attend, and they will be able to buy counter meals at cost directly from the Hotel Windsor. |
| On the bench were exhibition birds for novices, thanks to generous member donations, alongside a table of unbroken cap nest feathers for those keen to encourage a young bird to talk. Headlining the tender sale were quality offerings from John Mulley and the Holmes Family, which drew brisk interest and plenty of conversation around type and pairing plans. And to wrap it up, exhibition birds were also on display, with Spangle Double Factor being the variety of the night.
Bird of the Night went to a striking Spangle Double Factor White cock featuring clean white body colour – an eye-catcher that had everyone leaning in for another look. An unexpected crowd-pleaser was the series of coin-toss games, which delivered equal parts amusement and competitive spirit. The books were also incredibly popular, with most members finding some bedtime reading for the next month. |
| Raffle fortunes smiled on Ken & Janet, who took home the all-important meat tray to cap off the night. Thank you to our members, vendors, and newcomers for the energy, the birds, and the banter. If you enjoyed the evening, or you’re curious about breeding and exhibiting, come along to one of the Club meetings and join the conversation. |
| The week also featured a media moment as we began our monthly spot on The Generation Gap on Tribe FM last Friday. Thank you to everyone who tuned in and called the show. Tribe FM were wonderfully generous, hosting a full 20-minute interview with BCSA President Troy Holmes, who joined live from Melbourne for a wide-ranging chat about the hobby and all that had happened in budgerigars in the month of October, both here in South Australia, and across the country.
In the week ahead, we have lots of meetings, with the North East committee coming together on Tuesday night, and the BCSA committee coming together on Wednesday night. The BCSA committee will be discussing several motions to put forward to Colours and Standards, specifically relevant to the Australian Golden Faced, and also the revised pictorial (an interim measure).
Saturday next week will also be the first of our cohort’s Christmas parties, with Port Pirie coming together at the Port Broughton hotel on November 23rd. Thanks to Ashleigh Smith (through his work with the hotel), the Club can receive a financial benefit from this function at no cost to members. To secure this, you need to RSVP and pre-order your meals via Peter Glassenbury. Details are included in the Around the Clubs section below.
We’ve also had a request for the community from Finlay Isgone, who has two pet recessive pied budgerigars to re-home. They are both under a year in age. If you’re able to help Finlay, their number is 0414 388 771, and they’re located in Tea Tree Gully. Pictures of the birds are included below. |

| Check out the collaboration between our partners Hentley Farm, and Budgie Fest’s own artist, Dr. Daniel Connell! |
