BCSA Budgie Bulletin: Weekly Wrap & Look Ahead

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Budgie Bulletin!

It has been a quiet but productive week for the South Australian budgerigar community, with several key meetings and announcements shaping the months ahead. From important committee discussions to the release of a highly anticipated show schedule, here is a full wrap-up of the major events that took place.

United Bird Breeders of South Australia AGM

On Sunday the 14th, the United Bird Breeders of South Australia (UBBSA) held their Annual General Meeting at St Peters. The AGM provided member organisations with the opportunity to review the past year’s achievements, acknowledge the hard work of volunteers, and discuss goals for the future. As always, this meeting served as a reminder of the cooperative spirit that drives bird clubs across the state. Elections for committee roles were also part of the agenda, ensuring the association remains well-positioned to represent breeders in the year ahead. Members expressed optimism about continuing to build on the UBBSA’s strong foundation, particularly in education, welfare, and advocacy for aviculture in government. BCSA President Troy Holmes represented the budgerigar fraternity at the meeting.

BSSA Committee Meeting – Avicultural Expo Planning

The Budgerigar Society of South Australia (BSSA) committee also convened this week, with discussions focusing heavily on the upcoming Avicultural Expo to be held in Fullarton. Planning for this major event is already well underway, with the committee fine-tuning details around sale birds, displays, in what they hope will be a wide range of bird enthusiasts. The Expo will not only showcase budgerigars but also feature other avian varieties, making it a vibrant day for the broader avicultural community.

North East Budgerigar Society Committee Meeting

Wednesday night saw the North East Budgerigar Society (NEBS) committee gather for their regular committee meeting. As always, the discussions were practical and forward-looking, addressing both the club’s day-to-day operations and longer-term planning. Events for the balance of 2025 were locked away, and NEBS looks forward to delivering its next meeting, which will be a Zoom interview with Col Flanagan from Victoria. NEBS is also holding over their Mega Auctions now until March of 2026, to avoid any issues freighting birds during the Summer months.

Tri Club Cup Show Schedule Released

Rounding out the week, the much-anticipated show schedule for the Tri Club Cup was officially released online. This announcement has generated excitement among exhibitors across the state, as the Interclub and Tri Club Cup is always a highlight of the exhibition calendar. With classes now confirmed, members can begin planning their entries and preparing their birds for competition. The release of the schedule also underscores the collaborative nature of South Australian clubs, as the Tri Club Cup brings together societies to showcase the very best of the fancy. Exhibitors are eager to see how their birds will perform, while the friendly inter-club rivalry ensures a spirited and enjoyable event.
