What Happens at a Budgie Club Meeting?

If you have never attended a budgerigar club meeting before, don’t be put off by thinking you need years of experience to enjoy one.

The topics covered throughout the year vary enormously. You might hear experienced breeders talking about breeding programs, genetics or individual budgerigar varieties. Other meetings feature question-and-answer sessions, guest speakers, show preparation, club auctions, bird sales or discussions about what is happening across the hobby.

For someone new to budgerigars, it is also an opportunity to meet people who have decades of experience and to start building connections within the South Australian budgerigar community.

Club meetings are as much about the people as they are about the birds.

Budgie Shows in South Australia

A budgerigar show gives visitors the chance to see exhibition budgies at their best.

Throughout the year, BCSA affiliated clubs conduct a range of shows, from young bird and breeder events through to major annual competitions. Birds are exhibited across the recognised varieties and are assessed by accredited judges against the exhibition standard.

Shows are a great way to see the variety, colour, size, shape and presentation of exhibition budgerigars in person.

If you are considering showing your own birds in the future, visiting a show is also one of the best ways to understand how exhibition budgerigars are prepared, presented and judged.

Aviary Visits, Auctions and Special Events

Not every event happens inside a meeting hall.

The South Australian budgie calendar also features aviary visits and tours, giving members opportunities to visit breeders and see different breeding rooms, aviaries and management systems.

There are also budgerigar auctions and sales, educational workshops, presentations, social gatherings and special BCSA events throughout the year.

It means there are plenty of ways to become involved depending on what interests you most.
